It is not by chance that the makers of this tasty Sicilian red called this wine Kerasos, which means cherry in Greek. It's an apt description of the pronounced aromas of cherry and red fruits that mark the flavour profile of this sensational red. This is Nero d’Avola at its best and made from grapes grown on calcareous clay soils, high on hillside sites in Sicily where with high temperatures fluctuate between day (hot) and night (cooler) and winds help alleviate the risk of fungal issues in humid temperatures. This wine has a deep ruby colour, body to burn and structure to impress.
It's made from vineyards in the rolling hills of Camporeale countryside, between 250 and 350 meters above sea level. Grapes are all harvested by hand and transported to the winery in small baskets where they are de-stemmed and go through natural fermentation. which takes about 10 days at about 24° C. The finished wine spends six months aging in stainless steel before bottling.

"Grapes are dried in temperature and humidity controlled warehouses in hillside locations till December. Fermentation for about 20 days on the skins with constant pumping over. Oak wood aging for 18 months and in bottle for 6 months.
Casalforte Amarone della Valpolicella is a full-bodied red wine with a garnet red shade. Its complex bouquet recalls cherry jam, ripe black cherries and spicy notes of vanilla and licorice. On the palate it is juicy, well-structured with a fresh and fruity finish. It pairs perfectly with rich pasta dishes, game and grilled or stewed red meats as well as mature cheeses."
The lovely dry French rose comes from a great wine producer called Astralabe, a name that is extremely familiar to New Zealanders, only this producer is completely underelated to our own Astrolabe wines.

Aglianico is one of the most commanding red grapes and powerful red wines traditionally found in the south of Italy - and here's an interestingly delicious version made in Australia. This wine was fermented and aged in 800 litre Tuscan hand made amphora for 11 months. The aromas and flavours here span the gamut of blueberries and spice in a full bodied wine with staunch tannins held in great balance with this wine's fresh acidity which cuts through the backbone of the wine, adding tension and length.
Production was 1333 bottles.
The Churton vineyard is east-nor-east orientation, 200 metres above sea level and spanning a ridge line between Marlborough’s Omaka and Waihopai Valleys.
It captures the cool morning and warm daytime sunshine ideal for long, slow ripening. Soils here are older and denser than neighbouring valley floor. Loess above a clay subsoil which, at deep levels, has good water holding capacity. Planting density 4,630 vines per ha. The Clod Block is one of 17 individual vineyard blocks planted to the hillside contours by Sam and Mandy Weaver. Vine age approx. 12 years. Striking for its purity and immediacy, this expresssion of Churton is sappy and structured, with layers that build seamlessly into a velvety richness.
