Best Bitter
When you want more than a pretty good beer, reach for an Extra Special Bitter. A classic British ale that'll transport you to a London pub as soon as you get a waft of the toffee aroma. It's all about the balance between the sweet biscuity malt and the hop bitterness. Despite the name, it's not extra bitter - more smooth, mellow, and (you've got it) special.
5.5 % ABV.
The unique blend of Northdown, Target, Challenger and Goldings hops imparts grassy, peppery notes on the tongue along with intense citrus fruit characters of grapefruits, oranges and lemons. The blend of Pale Ale and Crystal malts in the brew give a biscuity, toffee element to the beer. A smooth, mellow bitterness lingers on the palate to give a superbly satisfying finish. New World ESB. We love NZ hops. How much? Here's how much.
Triple hopped with Pacifica, Motueka, and Riwaka in increasingly lavish quantities throughout the boil, Trip Hop's bitter but balanced on a generous malt base.
Rich amber red and redolent of the Nelson hop fields. Think easy drinking for resin heads and pucker up.

North End Ancestral Range Inspired by our ancestors who travelled across the seas to forge a new life in this land we set about brewing a full bodied strong London style bitter. We combined New Zealand Ale Malt, two different crystal malts , a little wheat , tangy English Goldings and Fuggels hops with our fruity English Ale yeast to create a sociable, sessionable taste of the old country .

For over 30 years the wars of the roses between the Tudor and Stewart families wracked England before the Tudor dynasty was established ushering in a period of stability and prosperity. This history is commemorated around the country with the proud Rose & Crown adorning the frontage of over 200 pubs in the UK.
This modern take on the traditional Best Bitter brings modern British hops to the fore. We took a rich and biscuity malt base and laid down an assertive bittering addition of Admiral hops. This classic base was married with dry hop additions of newcomers First Gold and Harlequin to add notes of tangerine, marmalade and passionfruit.
Our multi-award winning Best Bitter now part of the Sprig + Fern Brewing Co. core range of beers ? try it once and you?ll soon see why it?s sticking around!
This well-known English-style beer has earned it?s stripes as a hoppier, and therefore more bitter counterpart to the typically mild pale ales of its time. It?s notched a few medals along the way, too:

2016: Best British Ale ? Brewers Guild of New Zealand Beer Awards
Our Best Bitter blends five speciality malts to give the ideal balance of sweetness, providing well rounded toffee and biscuit characteristics. This is in combination with just the right amount of hops to accent the bitterness, and give a fruity, earthy aroma without dominating this malt-driven beer.
Amber in colour, bitter yet smooth in flavour, and malty in finish, the award-winning Best Bitter is one not to miss! Available in 440ml cans and 1.25L riggers ? as well as on tap at all Sprig + Fern Taverns.
