Syrah
Alpha Domus is a family owned winery in Hawke's Bay, which produces a wide range of wines from high quality sparkling to full bodied, age worthy reds.
This is their introductory Syrah, a dry full bodied red with notes of spice and red fruit. It drinks well now and can hold for three to four years from vintage date, but is not intended to be aged for the long term.
Serve in a large glass at room temperature; it's great winter drinking.
Ash Ridge Wines is located in Hawke's Bay and is a family owned winery established in 2005 by Chris and Sonya Wilcock.
This gem from the stunning 2020 vintage has a savoury, gamey bouquet packed with meaty nuances, black pepper, herb, dark plum and blackberry. The palate is rich with dark fruit and savoury details thanks to a supple tannin framework and balanced acidity.
Strictly one per person
Dark, peppery and appealingly spicy aromatic Syrah from the northern Wairarapa Lynfer Vineyard. Hand picked grapes with intense flavours of deeply rich black plum fruit were all hand picked and destemmed with fermentation and
maceration in stainless steel for 14 days. The wine was aged in 228 litre French oak barrels for 12 months and the wine was bottled unfined and
unfiltered. Still youthful, drinking beautifully and has a good four to five years of ageing potential up its sleeve.
A riff on the original 2020 Brambles. The heart of the cuvee is carbonically fermented Syrah with rizza pressed atop once fermentation had commenced. 500L amphora Syrah/riz blend + 3ish barrels of Syrah/riz + a puncheon of direct press Riesling.
Bright. Moreish. Salty. Brambles. Guava. Raspberry. Unabridged.
A gorgeous lively fresh Syrah with beautiful medium bodied balance and spice flavours seducing us into another sip or two? Martinborough winemaker Lance Redgwell made this impressive, deep plum fruit expression of Syrah with grapes grown on the Gimblett Gravels. He used a combination of fermentations, initially with carbonic maceration to start the winemaking process, moving onto traditional fermentation with wild yeasts to add textural interest and build depth of flavour into this lovely wine.
Rosso by name and Syrah by nature, this wine is made with grapes grown in the heart of the Bridge Pa triangle, an area with iron rich soils in Hawke's Bay. Layers of black spicy stewed plums lead into a full bodied, youthful and delicious complex wine.
The grapes were hand harvested and fermented in tank and 24 months in French oak barrels. A touch of Pinot Noir (2.5%) from the Osawa vineyard blended. Dark, aromatic wine with poise and power. Captivating dark berry fruit, dark olive and spice with harmonious oak and sheer velvetiness on the palate.
Great wine from a great vintage in Hawke's Bay, which translates into ripe, dark, spiced fruit characters in this Syrah, which forms part of the stable of wines in Church Road's 1 Series.
Winemaker Chris Scott describes it as a "Wine built around a core of brambly dark berry fruit, carrying lifted aromatic notes of violets and mulling spices, along with complexities of new leather and subtle toasty, savoury oak undertones. The palate is fine and long with a fine grained tannin structure and excellent mid palate flesh giving a very even, long and seamless mouthfeel. While approachable now, good Hawkes' Bay Syrah will age gracefully for 20 years of more."
Here here. A keeper.
