Alsace
Beautiful characterful, full bodied Riesling from the south east facing, lime and sandstone Searing Vineyard in Alsace, the driest region in France. This Riesling is bone dry with 0.59 grams of residual sugar per litre. All grapes were hand picked, whole bunch pressed and fermented with temperature control then aged on lees for eight months. This long aging on lees adds depth, weight and impressive smoothness to each sip of this superlative wine.
This wine has great character, is made in small volumes and built to last, although it's so darned delicious right now that it may be hard to resist the urge to open.
This certified organic French dry white is a field blend of Riesling, Sylvaner and Pinot Blanc, made from biodynamically grown grapes from the talented hand of Marcel Deiss. one of Alsace's most talented and ground breaking winemakers.
Domaine Marcel Deiss is located in Bergheim, a small village nestling in the heart of the wine region of Alsace, equal distance from the northern and southern boundaries of the region. The current winemaker is Jean-Michel Deiss, who was born into a long-established family of wine growers, living at Bergheim since 1744.
Today he manages the domaine, which consists of 26 hectares (52 acres) of hillside vineyards spread over nine communes and approximately 20 kilometres.
The wines of Domaine Marcel Deiss have cult status with wine collectors and drinkers alike so we are thrilled to have a wide range of them back in store, only they are in limited supply, so if you're a fan or a curious newcomer, get in quick.
Full bodied, complex, dry as a bone made in a delicious modern, lively style of French Riesling with refreshing lime and green apple aromas supported by bright acidity and a waxy texture. This wine is made with grapes grown an 25 year old vines on a vineyard originally planted in the 17th Century at Rouffach in Alsace. This most eastern wine region in France was once part of Germany, hence Riesling is one of the key wines made here, and the Mure family have retained ownership of their vineyard and brand for 12 generations now.
Alsace is the leading region for organically certified wines in France and this impressive newcomer to our shelves also puts Pinot Noir's best foot forward. Made from old vines and aged in century-old oak barrels, it is a full bodied wine with rich depth of flavour and it can take on substantial food flavours from gamey meat dishes to soft ripe cheese.
The wine is named after the village Mittelbergheim where limestone slopes favour healthy vines.
This wine is sealed with a screw cap to retain its freshness.
97 points James Suckling
"The purity of this wine is phenomenal with sliced apples, melon, minerals and hints of chalk. It's full-bodied, dense, and compacted with a super finish. There is almost a saltiness on the finish. Dried fruits too such as lemons, limes and papaya. From the best parcel of the Schonenberg. Very long and incredible. Goes on for minutes. So amazing now but will age forever. I marvel in its complexity and completeness."
