Perhaps nobody has embodied the allure of Burgundy as well as Michel Lafarge, whose family estate in Volnay makes wines that Burgundy lovers prize for their deep, soulful beauty. The Lafarge’s have been winemakers in Volnay since the 18th century. They started bottling in the early 1900’s, a rarity for a small estate.
Today, Michel Lafarge’ son, Fréderic, runs the around 10 hectares of vines and own some of the very best sites in Volnay. The domaine is run very much by instinct and respect for the terroir, with no sense of imposition and with biodynamic techniques. The wines are allowed to speak for themselves and are wonderfully fragrant, complex and harmonious – the essence of great Volnay.

"Vines located between the RN74 and Volnay vineyards – an especially good strip for Bourgogne, says Frédéric Lafarge. Gently sweet red fruit on the nose, pretty red cherry, so succulent and sweet-fruited and with great freshness. A lovely balanced burgundy. Very fine tannins. Succulent, generous, lively, complete."
89-90 points - Neal Martin - Vinous
"The 2018 Bourgogne Pinot Noir offers black cherries, raspberry and light floral notes on the nose, which is quite pure in style and finely delineated. The harmonious palate is underpinned by fine tannins and vivid red fruit on a finish so approachable that you could drink it directly from any one of its used barrels."
89 points - William Kelley -The Wine Advocate
"Bursting with notes of plums, sweet berry fruit and flowers, the 2018 Bourgogne Pinot Noir is medium to full-bodied, succulent and lively, with fine tannins, a fleshy core and an attractively sapid finish. This is dependably one of the region’s best generic Bourgognes, and the 2018 rendition is no exception. Drink 2020 - 2035

"From 40+ year old vines in Petit Pré which was once classified as Volnay villages. Once again there is an appealing freshness to the cool essence of red pinot fruit and softly spicy aromas. The sleeker and equally vibrant flavours possess a slightly finer mouthfeel while delivering lovely persistence on the refreshing finale. This too is impressive for what it is and while it could be aged to good effect, it should also be enjoyable young."
