The gentle influence of oak accentuates the sweet stonefruit, melon and grapefruit flavours. The texture is creamy and luscious with a fine minerality on the finish.
Exceptional hand-picked grapes from a coastal Chardonnay block. After gentle pressing, the free run juice is poured into barrel without clarification. The juice underwent fermentation with its own naturally occurring wild yeast. Regular lees stirring occurred during the Winter months before undergoing malolactic fermentation in Spring. The wine spent 20 months in French oak with minimal intervention and filtration. A bold & complex nose with hints of honeysuckle, pineapple and butterscotch. On the palate, the wine is rich with notes of, ripe white peach, toffee, melon with minerality and a spicy finish. Only two barrels of this wine were made.
Rod McDonald is a dab hand at Chardonnay (and Syrah and Pinot Noir and a range of other great wine styles too) and he is one of Hawke's Bay most experienced producers of it. This wine is made from grapes grown at Te Awanga on the coast south of Napier where the cooling sea breezes provide refreshing acidity and crispness to his wines, which he balances with malolactic fermentation in a combination of new and seasoned French oak. The wine spends 12 months in oak with lees stirring (aka batonnage) to enhance its creamy flavours and add depth and body.
This Chardonnay offers great flavours and fab value for money. A stunner.
It's easy to taste why this is the top white from Te Kairanga winery in Martinborough each year. Dry, smooth and complex flavours of roasted nuts, stone fruit and fresh white peach combine with citrus purity in a deeply flavoursome wine.
John Martin is named after the late founder of the Martinborough township. This wine is made mostly Mendoza clone Chardonnay grapes, grown on the winery's Home Vineyard. All grapes are whole-bunch pressed and fermented with wild yeasts with 10 months maturation in French oak puncheons, which are 500 litre barrels. This wine goes through 100% malolactic fermentation, providing structure and length to what is a complex and refined wine.

A great wine to enjoy now and to keep.
A beautifully fragrant Chardonnay that fuses traditional and modern winemaking techniques; whole bunch pressing, barrel fermentation, barrel maturation on gross lees, and malolactic fermentation. The nose offers lemon, white peach, popcorn and fresh pineapple and leads to a palate of lemon curd, cr?me br?l?e, toasted cashew and slight touches of flint and smoke. This is vibrant and juicy with refreshing acidity and plenty of concentration.

This is a stellar wine. One of the best from the Bay and from the country. Outstanding.
