Churton Wines
One of New Zealand's best white wines and a must try for lovers of great wine. Flinty, complex, fresh, bone dry and a gorgeous expression of Sauvignon Blanc. It is made from the best end of Churton Estate's biodynamically farmed Sauvignon Blanc vineyard. Ripe flavours and a full body are balanced by vibrant fresh acidity, which in turn is supported by creamy notes, savoury flavours and a lingering zesty finish.

Churton Estate's Natural State Pied de Cuve is made by second generation winemakers, Ben and Jack Weaver, who use grapes from the Loin Vineyard, which is family owned and farmed using biodynamic principles. This Sauvignon Blanc was whole bunch pressed into old oak puncheons and fermented with wild yeasts which were cultured from the vineyard. It was aged for a year on yeast lees and bottled without fining or filtration, so it is vegan friendly. A small addition of SO2 was added at bottling to retain freshness.

Certified organic grapes were used to make this new 2019 Pinot Noir from Churton Estate's second generation of winemakers, Ben and Jack Weaver. Fermentation was with indigenous yeasts and the result is a youthful, fruity Pinot with a lively flavours and a light to medium body. It's a great wine to drink lightly chilled in summer or as a light bodied winter red. Satisfying, refreshing and with complex notes; a lovely Marlborough Pinot Noir.

This Churton Estate Pinot Noir is made from grapes grown at altitude on a hillside vineyard in the Waihopai Valley, Marlborough. They were hand harvested, natural yeast fermented and spent 28 days on skins. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was aged in mature French oak for 16 months.
No fining or filtration makes this wine vegan friendly.
Hand harvested grapes were whole bunch pressed and treated to a long, slow fermentation followed by nine months of lees aging, which adds weight, texture and interesting savoury flavour notes to this medium bodied, dry Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker Sam Weaver describes The Abyss Pinot Noir as an iron fist in a velvet glove. It's made with grapes grown on a hillside vineyard, which backs onto a precipitous cliff, hence the name, The Abyss. Vines were planted here in 2000 at a high density of approximately 5000 vines to the hectare, which is unusual for New Zealand. All of these grapes are 100% certified organic with BioGro New Zealand and also grown biodynamically. A high proportion of whole berries were included in the ferment with indigenous yeasts and the wine was aged in French oak barrels for 18 months with a modest 10% new oak.

This Marlborough Viognier is one of New Zealand's most outstanding examples of its type with its full body and dry flavours balanced by weighty ripe peachy notes and a long, refreshing finish.
Viognier originates in the northern Rhone Valley in France where it typically makes high quality, 100% varietal wines (made solely from this grape, without blending) but can also be used in full bodied dry white blends.

The Churton vineyard is east-nor-east orientation, 200 metres above sea level and spanning a ridge line between Marlborough’s Omaka and Waihopai Valleys.
It captures the cool morning and warm daytime sunshine ideal for long, slow ripening. Soils here are older and denser than neighbouring valley floor. Loess above a clay subsoil which, at deep levels, has good water holding capacity. Planting density 4,630 vines per ha. The Clod Block is one of 17 individual vineyard blocks planted to the hillside contours by Sam and Mandy Weaver. Vine age approx. 12 years. Striking for its purity and immediacy, this expresssion of Churton is sappy and structured, with layers that build seamlessly into a velvety richness.

Churton Pinot Noir
WINEMAKING
The grapes were 100% handpicked and gravity fed into open top fermenters with 20% whole bunch inclusion. The skins were gently pumped over twice a day. The total time on skins was 21 days before being gently pressed off and matured in French oak for 16 months. The wine went through 100% malolactic fermentation in early spring before blending and bottling.
TASTING NOTES
On the nose fragrant and bright aromas of red liquorice, rose petals, dried spices, cranberries, cherries and blackberries. On the palate a core of wild strawberry and bramble fruits flavours is underpinned by silky tannins and fine acidity, with a long, crisp finish of slate and spice. This wine is concentrated but elegant.
