Big Peat is ablend of Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore, and surprisingly, Port Ellen malts ? all fromIslay, and created by Douglas Laing.; As one of Scotland?slargest independent bottlers, Douglas Laing is one of the few who could putthis together, as Port Ellen closed in 1983, and that distillery?scomponent must be at least 26 years old.; The seaside nature of Islayis well-expressed in this full and robust whisky.; The smokiness is explosive, and thetar, burnt rubber and ashy side comes to the fore. With air time, one can detect vanilla andgrains. The finish is longand potent. It was bottled without chill filtration.
