Syrah
Only produced in the best years, this Reserve Syrah is Passage Rock's showcase wine.
Rich ripe aromas of dark forest fruit and spice, coffee and vanilla on the nose lead to a dark garnet intensity in the glass. On the palate, toasted nuts and spices vie with dark berries, integrated ripe tannins and lacy acidity. Cellar it for 10 to 15 years
Passage Rock Syrah is made from grapes sourced from Waiheke Island's oldest vines. It has a rich bouquet of black currant, dark plums, blackberry and peppery spices, with core fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. The palate is textural and perfectly balanced. Enjoy over the next five to 10 years
Beautiful Syrah for drinking tonight or cellaring for another five+ years; silky, elegant and complex spice, black pepper and wild berry aromas all combine in a full bodied wine that has a history of ageing,. This wine is impressively made entirely from hand picked grapes grown on hillside vineyards planted in a mix of different Syrah clones, which accentuates its complexity and elegance.
An elegant Syrah from Hawke's Bay winemaker Kate Radburnd, whose extensive experience of making Syrah brings out the best in this exotic spicy French grape variety. Red fruit aromas are supported here by a velvet smooth backbone of fine tannins. Pure fruited and fragrant, with blueberry and cardamon spice. This Syrah has lingering length and persistence of flavour, a hallmark of this variety.
This delicious, dark and juicy new release is made from hand harvested Syrah grapes, which were destemmed and fermented in open tops with some foot stomping. Some whole bunches were incorporated in the ferment.
Made from fruit taken from an exceptional Gimblett Gravels vineyard, this Syrah is the antithesis of the big, rich, ripe Syrah?s that are abundantly available. With lovely acidity, refined tannins and superb flavor intensity, the wine was always destined for extended barrel and bottle ageing. Two years in barrel before bottling and then a further year in bottle before release in July 2020, reveals a unique wine that will age for a very long time.
Raspberry, white pepper, cedar, poached pears, plums and hints of fresh coconut make for a highly complex nose. The wine has fine-grained, delicate tannins, with a light mid-palate texture more aligned with Burgundian Pinot Noir than Hawkes Bay Syrah. Fresh acidity that lengthens and balances the palate brings length, freshness and vitality.

From the winery...
Saorsa. A term to describe a radical sense of freedom that represents our philosophy completely. Our aim is to produce honest and sincere wines that are free to sing their own song and truly express themselves and the sites they are grown. Wines of great balance and texture, using what nature provides? time and thought.
Here at Saorsa Wines we make small production wines by hand in the beautiful Hawke?s Bay. We select specific sites that not only have the greatest attributes for exceptional quality but also a unique individuality that manifests in the wine itself. Production is with the lightest of hands, in a traditional manner using everything the grapes bring with them without industrial manipulation and additives.
About the wine...
Aromatic notes of rose petals and dried herbs layered upon liquorice, smoke and earth. Fresh and lively with a seductive silky finish. Our wines are produced with oxygen exposure and develop greatly once opened. Decanting the wines will allow them to truly express themselves.
Vineyards
A blend of two idyllic hillside sites in Hawke?s Bay. One from the Subregion of Paki Paki a gentle North facing slopes with shallow limestone soils. A slightly more inland area of Hawke?s Bay with long hot days and an abundance of sunlight. The second from the steep sandstone over limestone slopes of Roy?s Hill situated high above the Gimbeltt Gravels stoney soils. This presence of light and heat combined with the natural slope of the sites and cooling winds allows our Syrah to boast both masculine and delicate floral tones.
Dark, juicy, spicy and delicious Syrah made from organically certified grapes grown in Marlborough. Exceptional wine with power, elegance and structure.

Organic certification
The organic story at Seresin
One of the greatest things about Seresin Estate is the organic certification. This came relatively early on for Seresin, who was dismayed by the amount used and the impacts of man made chemicals, which were routinely and frequently sprayed on vines. His early adopting philosophy of organic certification paved a positive path for the integrity of the wines as well as leading others to follow suit.
One of the best Syrahs from Hawke's Bay, full of rich, dark blackberry flavours, red liquorice and a savoury finish; this wine is long and finely tuned without being heavy, dense or dry. And while it's impressive now, this is also a keeper from Smith & Sheth, a pair of wine loving business people whose aim is to make the best expression of grape and place. Hawke's Bay and Syrah are a match made in heaven.
Spade Oak Wines was founded by winemaker Steve Voysey and his partner in wine and in life, Eileen. This Gisborne couple produce outstandingly good value for money wines from this most eastern wine region in the country, including this medium bodied spicy Syrah. Like all Spade Oak wines, this one over delivers on value and on taste.
