Maravedi is the name of an ancient Spanish coin and this wine is an excellent blend of Chardonnay and Airen (an indigenous Spanish white grape). The flavours are smooth and creamy with Chardonnay strutting its flavoursome, approachable taste in every mouthful. It is made from dry farmed, organically certified vineyards in the La Mancha region of Spain, south of Madrid, which is Spain's largest wine region.
This is one of our staff favourites at Regional Wines; Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc which is dry, full of flavours of tropical fruit with notes of zingy citrus coupled with tropical fruit and a long finish.
Whitehaven Wines began life in 1994 as a romantic business for a couple of corporate escapees, Sue and Greg White, who had given up life in the rat race of Auckland for another kind of life aboard their yacht. When sailing around the country, they took shelter in the Marlborough Sounds from Pacific storms and fell in love with the region. An easy thing to do when harbouring in the spectacularly pristine waters of the Sounds. They decided to settle there on terra firma once more and try their hands at wine production, hiring a winemaker and beginning a business which has now been around for 26 years. Greg has sadly passed away now, leaving a legacy as well as his wife and daughter, Sam, to run the winery. Their winemaker is Peter Jackson.
The rose is on trend with its pale colour, dry taste and fleshy summer berry aromas, thanks to being 100% Pinot Noir with light skin contact to retain its light hue and freshness.

Koparepare Chardonnay shows just how excellent Marlborough's second most planted grape can be. It's creamy, refreshing, full bodied and offers great value for money.
A portion of the sale of every bottle of Koparepare wines goes to support LegaSea, a not for profit organisation set up by the New Zealand Sport Fishing Council in 2012 to raise awareness of the marine environment and inspire public support.
Whitehaven Wines was founded by Greg and Sue White in 1994 after they sailed into the Marlborough Sounds to shelter from a storm in the early 1990s and fell for the natural beauty of the region and the haven it provided. So they decided to take the next natural step - set up a winery back on dry land, naming it, naturally enough, Whitehaven.
If you're a fan of a big red, try this one out for size and you'll soon be back for more. It's made by Australian winemaker Johnny Quarisa, who may have an Italian background but he rocks a definite Argentinian vibe in this deliciously dry, dark and juicy Malbec. It's made from grapes grown in South Australia, a region better known for Shiraz, which also fits the big dark juicy red style.
This is an outstanding, velvety red which totally over delivers. Long, smooth and delicious.
Laya is a banging Spanish red made from a blend of heat loving Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell, both of which thrive in the dry arid climate of Spain and in this wine their big bold flavours are well balanced by being grown on vineyards at altitude. This wine is made from grapes grown at 700 to 1000 metres above sea level on limestone soils; two factors that encourage great quality grapes, which express themselves in high quality wines, thanks to the closer than usual proximity to the sun and the cool nights, which stretch out the growing season and provides refreshing acidity to the grapes.
Oak maturation was brief, which soften this wine, adding complexity.
Lovely light bodied Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough's Whitehaven winery, which produces the incredibly good value for money Mansion House Bay range of wines as a little sibling to its main brand.
This is a light and dry Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand's biggest wine region and its flavours are fresh, crisp and taste of green apple and pear with a lingering finish. This is very good value for money.
This fresh, crisp, medium bodied Chardonnay over delivers in a successful blend of creamy notes and a fresh lingering finish. Great value for money.
This is a light, dry and fresh Pinot Gris with flavours of white fruit and a lingering finish. Good value.
You don't need us to explain the popularity of Prosecco and how its light body, medium flavour intensity and soft smooth sparkling style make it one of the most affordable, refreshing white wines around.
La Marca is our miniature Prosecco, available in screwcapped 187ml, stylish Italian bottles. It's a big brand from a big wine region; well, two wine regions in north east Italy - the Veneto and Friuli, home to this leading sparkling wine.
Coonawarra is one of Australia's famous Cabernet Sauvignon regions and home to 100% of the grapes used to make this full bodied, well structured, dry red, which is produced by winemaker Corey Ryan and Nicholas Crampton. They collectively aim to make great value wines that over deliver and shine a new light on classic styles. If this wine is any indication, they totally succeed - we sell stacks of this and one sip will show you why.
Grape: Carignan, Cinsault, Grenache
A pale pink colour that is vivid and bright. Intense nose combining fresh fruit of strawberry, melon, cranberry, peach and citrus, with notes of red currant and sour cherry. Rich, with a beautifully well-balanced intensity that is very fresh and slightly sweet and sour on the palate. Good tannins and mild acidity, make for a crisp, refreshing finish.
