A Rifter is much like that of a forager or a fossicker from the early gold mining era; they explored the rifts around the hills of Arrowtown, searching for that elusive nugget. At the end of a long day, a refreshing gin was always welcomed.
Rifters is a small batch boutique gin. Handcrafted in New Zealand using flavourful botanicals and pure New Zealand artesian water. Made to be enjoyed in good company.
Rifters bottle represents those used by the foragers and fossickers of the Arrowtown founders. The search for it took them to the Arrowtown Museum. It was there that they discovered a number of original Dutch gin bottles that had been unearthed in the town?s surrounding hills. Those bottles had been left behind by gold miners over one hundred and fifty years ago. Rifters bottle is a representation of that Arrowtown history, coloured to match the schist in the mountains that surround them in Central Otago.
Rifters was started by a couple of kiwi builders who are pretty fond of gin. One day in the workshop, they decided they might have a nudge at creating their own. A couple of years later and a whole lot of trial, they figured things out.
Tasting Notes: An enhanced dry gin full of botanical flavour, pure, clean and balanced. Citrus forward, with a fresh dry finish.
Hastings Distillers was formed in 2019 by Kate Galloway and David Ramonteu, an inspiring couple with a background in winemaking and an artistic philosophy of production. Their award winning spirits are inspired as much by artists such as Tolstoy, Steiner and Tuwhare as by their scientific backgrounds in winemaking. The pair created the wine brands Alluviale and DaDa in a prior lifetime, before travelling through Europe and decided to marry distillation with therapeutic herbs. The result is a range of spirits using foraged, organic and biodynamic botanicals, pure organic spirit and water. Learn more about their story, taste the products and take some home from a visit.
Biogro Certified
Hastings Distillers commitment to organics is shown in their Biogro certification, ensuring all aspects of their production (botanicals, alcohol, water, packaging) has been checked, audited and certified by New Zealand?s largest certification agency.
Packaging
The transparent seal on their bottles is made from environmentally friendly, compostable cellulose. The bottles themselves and label paper are made by long established European manufacturers under EU environmental regulations.
?London Dry?
Historically, the term London Dry relates to the production methods. This dictates that the Gin must be made from pure 96% ABV neutral spirit of agricultural origin, all botanical flavour must be imparted through distillation and nothing can be added after, the Gin must be dry. While their Gins adhere to the law governing this term, they are a modern, unconventional interpretation of the classical style.

About Fenton Street Distillery
Fenton Street Gin is crafted in Stratford at an elevation of 310m/1017 feet. They capture Botanics at altitude. Their botanics are not distilled separately then blended. To ensure flavours are balanced they are carefully measured in much the same way as a chef creates a dish.
Due to the freshness and volume of the botanicals, some of the Fenton Street gins may appear cloudy when tonic is added or sipped on ice. This is because their gins are non-chill filtered. Stuart Greenhill, head distiller said: “We don’t want to chill-filter. The whole point of our gin is to capture flavours from carefully selected and measured botanics. It seems unproductive to distil in what is essentially a neutral flavoured spirit and then filter out the natural oils again.”
Rutte has been distilling genevers, gins and liqueurs since 1872 and today the firm's motto still remains the same: "distilled with passion". They use no artificial flavorings or colorings; all of the flavor and color comes from fresh fruit, herbs and nuts, which is obvious from the products' sublime flavors and aromas! The historical building in the center of Dordrecht has been preserved in its original state. The distillation process is still carried out there and smaller, more specialized orders are still bottled by hand. The family's former living room on the first floor has been converted into a gorgeous tasting room. Now the smallest distillery in the Netherlands is presenting new distillates to the global market. With Rutte Celery Gin, Rutte Old Simon Genever, Rutte Dry Gin, this traditional company is offering bartenders worldwide not only a source of inspiration for new drink creations but also a rich history.
Tasting Note: A harmonious blend of juniper, fresh orange peel and fennel. Hand written notes from master distiller Jan Rutte (Simon?s grandson) dating back to 1930 inspired us to fashion this elegant, dry gin. Our aim was to create an exceptionally smooth dry gin, which makes for a thirst-quenching gin and tonic or a classic cocktail that is effortless, yet complex.
Fresh and sprightly like the piwakawaka that adorns the label and designed to be enjoyed on any occasion.
This is a juniper forward gin based around Dr Beak's core botanicals. A savoury expression with notes of fresh rosemary and mint, finishing with a kick of horopito.

An unabashedly new wave gin, where orange and lemon take the Oscar for best supporting actor.
Your first note will be bold citrus which gives way to soft juniper, finally flowing into a welcome ginger note that tails off and leaves you with the anticipation of taking your next sip.
Pot distilled to maximise the flavour, using the authentic London Dry method - with only water added after distillation.

Ginarte is the Italian premium gin dedicated to the art world.
A refined gin with a unique flavor produced with 13 selected botanicals. The juniper berries, strictly picked in Tuscany, are infused in pure wheat alcohol at 65% and then distilled in vacuum discontinuous alembic, because the vacuum reduces the boiling point of the infusion ito preserve the more delicate aromas.
Together with juniper, we selected plants that have a particular link with art. Elements such as the Calamint, safflower, mignonette, rubia and indigo were in fact used for the creation of colored pigments by the most important Renaissance painters, In addition, herbs such as angelica, lavender, hibiscus, elder flowers, pine buds, mountain pine and pine needles complete the botanicals and contribute to produce a clean and complex gin at the same time.
The juniper berries
Picked only in select areas of the Apennines of Tuscany, the juniper berries are infused in 65% pure wheat alcohol and then distilled in a discontinuous vacuum alembic still to preserve even the most delicate of its aromas.
The botanicals of the art
Calamint, Safflower, Mignonette, Rubia, Indigo
These rare and precious botanicals are infused separately in 55% pure wheat alcohol and then distilled, separately, in a small, non-vacuum, discontinuous alembic still.
the other botanicals
Wild celery, Lavender, Hibiscus, Elderflower, Pine buds, Mountain pine, Pine needles
These plants are infused, all together, in 55% pure wheat alcohol. The resulting infusion is then distilled in a small, non-vacuum discontinuous alembic still.
