This ?V.S.? is a blend of Cognacs coming from the Petite Champagne and Fins Bois areas, both situated near the town of Cognac, in the heart of the Cognac region.
Supplies of young Cognacs from distillers in these areas are carefully chosen for aging and blending under our cellar master?s control. It is his skill which guarantees the tradition and continuity of the ?Company? style.
Cognacs from the Fins Bois area generally age quicker than those from the Champagne areas and consequently this ?V.S.? quality already has a certain maturity and smoothness combined with the elegance of the Champagne.
The fresh grape flavour is well pronounced and still dominates the wood tannins at this stage of aging. The style is characteristic of a well-balanced blend with all the fineness and delicacy one expects of a true Cognac.
Ideal as a basis of a refreshing long drink, this quality will also give you full satisfaction as a classical neat Cognac.
Generous aroma offers up attractive scents of fig, cinnamon and vanilla. Second pass finds raisins, hints of cedar and dried flowers. The bouquet follows through to an elegant, middle weighted profile of dried fig with hints of nougat carried by a pantry of sweet spices through to the clean, drying aftertaste. Lovely cognac in the lighter, drier mould and an intermediary style falling between the VSOP and XO expressions from this house. - Maison Vouron.
Aged for 30 years, this sweet, dark sherry is incredibly rich and complex. It has deep aromas of caramel, dried fruit and toasted wood. The palate is equally rich and dense, with fig and plum notes coming through with a coffee like intensity. This intensely complex backdrop is balanced by sweetness, creating an excellent dessert sherry.
Gran Familia Rioja is an excellent value Rioja, with delicious red fruit flavours and balance. Here, the winemakers have opted for a more fruit forward Rioja by using less oak than usual. The result is a wine that shows great varietal expression and brightness. This is a very versatile wine at a great price.
Muga white Rioja is a blend of 90% Viura and 10% Malvasía and Garnacha Blanca. This is a very clean and floral wine with almond and citrus notes at the forefront. The nose is very perfumed with lime and toasty aromatics that lead to a palate which is fresh, with good acidity and a long apple driven finish.
Viña Real Reserva is made mainly from grapes from Rioja Alavesa vineyards. The grapes come primarily from the towns of Laguardia and Elciego. Neighbouring municipalities have been involved in the production of this wine for several decades. The plots are small and sometimes terraced, featuring over 30-year old head-trained and unirrigated vines. The soils are mostly calcareous, poor in organic matter, with smaller yields and varying aspects.
Following pre-fermentation cold maceration, alcoholic fermentation takes place in gravity-fed (with a bridge crane) stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28-30ºC.
During fermentation, remontage and delestage are carried out, with tastings to determine the ideal time for running off (also gravity led) into concrete tanks.
The wine is aged in new single-use French and American oak barrels for an average of 22 months, with manual racking taking place every 4 months in the first year. Once bottled, the wine is aged in the Viña Real cellars for a minimum of one and a half years to develop a rounded and complex flavour before being released onto the market.
A great example of fruit-forward easy drinking Garnacha from Campo de Borja near Aragon in northern Spain. Garnacha, if done well, offers a happy blend of red and dark fruits with relatively high alcohol and decent tannins. The warm Spanish climate suits this grape well and you're all but guaranteed ripe fruit and silky smooth tannins.
