If you're a fan of great Pinot Noirs, this Langhe Nebbiolo will tick all the boxes too. Nebbiolo is the greatest red grape variety out of Italy's incredibly diverse array and it comes from Piemonte; the noble region in the north west where cool nights, elevated vineyards and warm days all add up to a long ripening season.
Savoury, silky and full of layers of red fruit, this is an excellent wine, offering a glimpse into the wonderful world of Nebbiolo.
Carefully honed by Production Director John Campbell, this is the first core expression from Lochlea Distillery.
Matured in first-fill Bourbon barrels, Oloroso Sherry casks and STR barriques. Non chill-filtered and Natural Colour.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Pear syrup, fruit bonbons, warm cut grass, marmalade
Palate: Golden syrup, pepper, rye bread, macadamia nuts, cream soda
Finish: Long finish with a lasting orange beeswax note
Created by the Lochlea distillery at the farm once home to Robbie Burns, this new Lowland distillery produces 100% of its whisky from barley grown and harvested on-site. This season small batch release sees 100% ex-bourbon barrels selected from higher up in their warehouses, with the faster maturation apparent. A juicy red apple and ripe pear fruit is followed by flavours of vanilla pod and almond oil, with a crisp and refreshing pine forest note in the background. An exciting new release from the family at Lochlea.

Winemaking at Felton Road is led by one of Central Otago's most experienced winemakers, Blair Walter, who has been at Felton Road since the mid 1990s. His meticulous attention to detail and unwavering focus on the great classic Chardonnays of the world are as key to this wine's outstanding quality as the focus on great quality in the vineyard and winery.

Block 3 is a powerful Pinot Noir that requires age to reveal its smoother side. It is made from grapes grown on a gentle north facing slope in the heart of The Elms Vineyard where deep silt soils are interspersed with calcareous seams. This vintage has had 25% whole bunch fermentation which accentuates the powerful full bodied structure of the wine. It was aged for 13 months in French oak barrels, 30% new.
Like all of Felton Road's wines, this big, full bodied dry and youthful Pinot Noir is 100% certified organic and biodynamic.
This wine drinks well now, if decanted, and will age superbly, evolving into a silkier, lithe wine with time.
About Felton Road
Felton Road winemaker Blair Walter and owner Nigel Greening (who bought the winery in 2000) are a formidable team producing elegant, powerful southern Pinots from their estate vineyards, all now organically and biodynamically certified.
They specialise in producing limited bottlings from their different vineyard blocks and sites in Bannockburn, Central Otago. Block 3 Pinot Noir is one of these and is one of the most age worthy, with the ability to drink well in its youth but evolve superlatively for up to (potentially beyond) a decade.
