THE ORIGINAL
5 YEAR OLD
"The Original" is our classic single malt that truly champions our peated pursuit. Made with mainland peat from St. Fergus, the flavour contribution is sweeter than that anticipated of coastal peat.
NOSE: Baking spices, burnt honey and espresso, with hazelnuts, smoked almonds and butterscotch.
TASTE: Sweet peat, rich chocolate and heather honey, with cinnamon, ginger and oak-smoked sugar.
The entry point of the Mortlach range, combining both ex-bourbon- and ex-sherry-matured whisky to balance the distillery's traditionally weighty, dried fruit character against fresh fruit and vanilla notes. The result is a success, combining the best of both of these worlds while still showing off the meaty Mortlach spirit
43.4% ABV
Part of the premium Mortlach range, combining bourbon and sherry matured whisky to create a spicy, rich and flavoursome dram that shows off the distillery's excellent spirit.
NOSE
Hazelnuts, spicy cinnamon, raisins, candied orange and floral touches up front. There's quite a lot of sweetness, with some dry, leafy notes balancing barley sugar and vanilla fudge.
PALATE
Thick and oily, with dark chocolate, real maraschino cherries, dark wood, plump raisins, spicy cinnamon, liquorice and biscuits - garibaldi biscuits with cherry jam.
FINISH
Spicy cinnamon hangs around, with raisins, more cherry and toasted nutmeg.
Combining a splendid blend of single malt whiskies (it is thought from Glenturret, Highland Park and Macallan), Naked Malt is allowed to mature in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks. The name refers to the fact that the casks have never held whisky before, meaning that all that rich, fruity sherry goodness is imparted straight into this tasty blend! Nice and versatile, it's a solid sipper and ideal to have handy when mixing up some cocktails!
Nose: Smooth and oily with notes of cherry compote, buttered granary toast, malt, custard and peach.
Palate: Sherried and thick with notes of sultanas, sticky toffee pudding, raspberry jam, Victoria sponge, custard and cr?me caramel.
Finish: Medium, with notes of cocoa, oak and just a soupcon of smoke on the very tail.
Nc'Nean distillery, pronounced nook-nee-an, is situated in one of the most isolated locations on the rugged west coast of Scotland. Founded in 2017 by Annabel Thomas, this is one of the only certified organic whiskies made in the world. Matured in a combination of ex-American oak, ex-STR wine casks and a touch of ex-Oloroso sherry butts, there is an abundance of fruity tones like apricot, peach and a delicate citrus quality. A creamy, toasted brioche flavour joins in, giving way to a warming, spiced finish. Whisky Galore are thrilled to bring to New Zealand this beautiful new dram.
