This is the core expression of 10 year old Ballechin single malt Scotch whisky, which is heavily peated whisky from Edradour. It has been named for the silent Ballechin distillery near the Edradour distillery. Releases under the Ballechin name from Edradour were previously presented as part of The Discovery Series, many of which were matured in different types of casks, including Sherry, bourbon and a selection of wine casks. This 10 year old expression, however, comes from a combination of ex-Oloroso Sherry and ex-bourbon casks.
Nose: Oily malt, whiffs of burnt ends and BBQ char, a few touches of apple and fig.
Palate: Chewy dates and oak, with smouldering peat bringing spicy heat to the palate.
Finish: A hint of ash sticks around on the finish.
We’ve been searching high and low to find a good quality Australian Pinot Noir and here it is – not just a good one but an outstanding wine from the great Giant Steps Winery.
It’s made from a 34 hectare vineyard planted in 1999 on a north east facing site on calcareous and Triassic sandstone, entirely devoted to Pinot Noir. This wine is made with hand picked grapes which were immediately refrigerated and shipped across the Bass Strait and trucked up to the winery in Yarra Valley the following morning. It was cold soaked for three to four days and fermented with indigenous yeasts with a portion of whole bunches. The finished wine was matured in French oak, 25% new and 75% older oak, for eight months.
This is an outstanding Australian Pinot Noir

?From a vineyard site not too far away from the winery near Castelnuovo dell'Abate on the eastern and cooler side of the appellation, this wine was once a Rosso di Montalcino recently upgraded to Brunello status. With vines planted in 2000, the fruit now renders the complexity and depth to represent this celebrated Tuscan appellation. This is a tight and compact wine, with a nervous quality of fruit that will unwind and settle with more bottle age. This vineyard site produces fruit poised for long-term aging, and these 2016 results follow that mandate. There is a lot of crisp fruit, sour cherry and cranberry in this tonic, lively Brunello (with 15,000 bottles hitting the market in January 2021).?

What is Brunello?
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is one of Italy's great reds and comes from Montalcino, a hillside town that's about 42 kilometres from the city of Siena, 150 kilometres from Florence and is 567 metres above sea level.
Brunello di Montalcino must legally be aged for five years prior to its release in bottle, so when looking at the great wines from this small township, it's important to take that into consideration.
The name Brunello comes from the Italian word Bruno, which means brown. It was given to the grape variety that Brunello di Montalcino is made from; it's a 100% varietal wine, meaning it is made entirely from only one grape variety. And until 1879, that grape was thought to be a distinctively different variety than the main grape in Tuscany, namely Sangiovese.
In 1879, it was discovered that the Brunello grape is, in fact, a clone of Sangiovese which happens to produce particularly powerful, velvety smooth reds in this little highly prized hillside appellation. So, Brunello is one of Tuscany's few red wines that is made 100% from the Sangiovese grape and it is one of Italy's great red wines.
Beautiful characterful, full bodied Riesling from the south east facing, lime and sandstone Searing Vineyard in Alsace, the driest region in France. This Riesling is bone dry with 0.59 grams of residual sugar per litre. All grapes were hand picked, whole bunch pressed and fermented with temperature control then aged on lees for eight months. This long aging on lees adds depth, weight and impressive smoothness to each sip of this superlative wine.
This wine has great character, is made in small volumes and built to last, although it's so darned delicious right now that it may be hard to resist the urge to open.
This ripe and richly flavoured French red packs a powerful punch thanks to clever blending of three late ripening red grapes; 50% Carignan , 40% Syrah and 10% Grenache.
Winemakers Jean-Marc and Eliane Lafage farm 160 hectares of vines located just south of the capital of French Catalonia, Perpignan. Some of their vineyards are situated a few kilometers from the Mediterranean, while others can be found in the foothills of the Pyrenees. This range of sites allows them to make refreshing whites, concentrated reds, and – this being the Roussillon – some fortified wines, as well. Benefiting from a warm, dry climate, the estate is farmed organically. They grow primarily Grenache (Blanc, Gris & Noir), Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan, Marsanne, Roussanne and Chardonnay, with a significant portion of the vines well over 50 years old. Soils tend to be weathered with alluvial gravel the closer it is to the coast, while it is predominately schist in the higher elevation sites.
Grapes are harvested by hand and the winemaking is surprisingly uncomplicated: stainless steel for the fresher whites, but mostly concrete tanks for the rest with a small amount of French oak demi-muids.
Warner's has introduced its 0% Botanic Garden Spirit range of alcohol-free tipples, including this Pink Berry variation! The pink botanicals are raspberries, rose, pink peppercorn and blackcurrant sage, though this is boosted with a spicy kick from chilli, ginger and Szechuan pepper! Sweet and spicy, simply grab some tonic and a handful of fresh raspberries for a refreshing serve.
Tasting Notes: Fresh raspberry and blackcurrant kicks things off, leading into a hit of fiery ginger, and a sweet and spicy finish.

anCnoc has released its second batch of Peatheart single malt, a heavily-peated expression packing a hefty 40 PPM measurement! The Balvenie 25 Year Old Single Barrel Traditional Oak, was introduced to the Balvenie single malt Scotch whisky range in 2014. Released in batches, each bottle is one of no more than 300, drawn from a single cask, all of which are refill American oak casks. There will be slight variations between batches, but the casks selected by Malt Master David Stewart for this release are chosen for having the richly spiced, sweetly honeyed character you'd expect from 25 year old Balvenie single malt aged in American oak. This means there is an overarching consistency between batches.

A rare bottling from the now discontinued, and beautifully packaged, Flora and Fauna range. This 12 year old was distilled at the Speyside based Strathmill distillery.
