Scottish Whisky : Scotch
A well-aged Benromach, what a treat! A duo of first-fill sherry and bourbon casks housed this one for over two decades, until it was bottled at 21 years old. This Speysider boasts that classic subtle smokiness we know and love from the distillery alongside gentle spices and fruit.
Nose: Deep Oloroso sherry comes through, with stewed plums, raspberry jam and juicy sultanas initially followed by hints of Pinot Noir, orange peel and dried apricots. Vanilla, toasted brown sugar, milk chocolate and aromatic ginger spice appear underneath with sweet peat warmth throughout.
Palate: Notes of stewed orchard fruit, chocolate-covered raisins and Seville orange marmalade are followed by hints of set honey, praline, red berries and gingerbread. In the backdrop, there?s cracked black pepper, tangy oak and smoke from a smouldering bonfire.
Finish: Sherry tones lead the finish, with a hint of buttery toffee apples, oak spice and fruitcake.
Benromach - Made with heavily peated barley, our Peat Smoke is more intense than the subtle smoke of our 10 Year Old's pre-1960s Speyside character. Yet it retains the Benromach fingerprint of elegant fruitiness with that gorgeous hint of chocolate.
Sweet vanilla, honey and cured meat aromas, hints of apricot and lemon combining with a beautiful subtle tobacco note. There?s cracked pepper with sweet strawberry and orange flavours, a delicate hint of aniseed? combined with a lingering edge of bonfire embers.
Organic single malt from the brilliant Benromach Distillery, which was distilled back in 2011 and left to mature in virgin American oak casks until 2019. They use organically certified Scottish barley for this expression. An innovative, delicious tipple, this one.
Nose: Toasty oak with warming hints of cinnamon and ginger, balanced by juicy apricot and white grape.
Palate: Banana bread and coffee, with continued ginger heat. Layers of runny caramel as it develops.
Finish: Subtly peppery, with just a whisper of floral smoke lingering.
Owned by a family of whisky lovers, Benromach is a traditional Speyside distillery keeping things simple. Their small team of distillers rely entirely on their sense and expertise to create the finest handmade whisky.Beginning in 2006, Benromach Contrasts: Organic Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the world's since organic single malt whisky. This whisky is matured in virgin American oak casks to provide sweet, malty notes of creamy pepper, coffee, cocoa, and banana flavours.
The first certified organic Single Malt Scotch whisky since 2006, this is the latest of Benromach's acclaimed 'Contrasts: Organic' series. Distilled in 2013 this follows previous releases unpeated spirit, matured in virgin-American oak. Offering an aromatic and sweet fragrant oaky note, rich with vanilla and toffees, the nose is creamy and malty as well. The mouthfeel is creamy again with banana custard, moving to coffee and cocoa flavours. Fully accredited by the UK Soil Association, this is a rare example of totally organic Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
An interesting view of a typically heavier Speyside dram, this expression from Benromach has been triple distilled, a style very rarely seen in Scotch Whisky. Matured entirely in ex-bourbon casks filled in 2011, the nose offers a basket of tropical fruits, with fresh vanilla pods and baked biscuits. The palate brings a trip to the orchard, with ripe green apples and pears in the spotlight, backed by touches of banana and clover honey. Soft smoke and citrus leave you wanting more...

From Blackadder...
Black Snake is produced from a Vatting of casks finished in a Single Butt. It starts its life in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks. We then put three of them into new Oloroso or PX butts and leave for around a year for further maturation before bottling two thirds of the cask. We call these ?Vats? as they are a kind of mini Solera. After each bottling we add two more ex-Bourbon casks, always of the same whisky, and leave for around another year before again bottling two thirds of the Vat. All future bottlings from each vatting of Black Snake will therefore contain some spirit that was in previous expressions from the Butt. From time to time the Butt is renewed. Each edition bottling of Black Snake is called ?Venom?, as in a snake?s poison. A touch of Blackadder humour! The first bottling from each Vat is called ?First Venom?, the second ?Second Venom? and so on.
