The Benriach 25 year old is aged in a combination of three different cask types: oloroso, bourbon and virgin oak.

Nose: Well-aged, aromatic, floral. Peppery, vanilla. Interesting touch of salinity.

Palate: Lots of fruit, particularly luscious stone fruit. Almonds and cocoa, spice.

Finish: Dry, rich complexity.

The entry level BenRiach bottling with no age statement, named for the distillery?s location in Elgin in Moray at the heart of Speyside. This fine single malt captures fruit, honey, heather, spice and oak. Bottled at 40%, non-chill filtered, the Heart of Speyside truly portrays the classic Speyside style of BenRiach.

This special release from Benriach is the first expression in a century to be produced entirely using barley malted from Benriach's historic floor maltings. This whisky has been matured in both bourbon and virgin oak barrels. This brings out notes of barley sugar, almond fudge, orchard apples, vanilla and honeyed pear. A long lasting finish is full of malty notes.

Whisky explorers searching for a glimpse into the spirit of BenRiach distillery have the chance to experiment with this emerging Speyside single malt in its most non-diluted form, with the release of BenRiach Cask Strength Batch 2. Following on from the successful release of Cask Strength Batch 1, BenRiach distillery Master Blender Rachel Barrie has hand-picked a small selection from 2006, 2007 and 2008 to create this rich, smooth, triple-cask matured expression.

This single malt continues BenRiach's reputation for rich, innovative cask maturation by combining cask strength whisky matured in bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry casks and virgin oak hogsheads. It has a richer and smoother taste profile to its award-winning predecessor, BenRiach Cask Strength ? Batch 1, which won a Silver Outstanding award at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in 2016.

This unique single malt has been distilled from peated malted barley and has been fully matured in quarter casks. A smaller cask allows for more interaction between the wood and the spirit, giving the whisky a great depth of flavour and aroma in a shorter period of time. Bottled at 46%, non chill filtered and natural colour, this is an extraordinary, full-flavoured dram.

Tasting Notes

NOSE: Elegant waves of wood smoke intensify to burning heather with a delicious contribution of ripe orchard fruits. Subtle hints of peaches, cinnamon sugar and a slight herbal note of fresh barley give an added contrast to the unique, rich peat character.

COLOUR: Bright summer gold.

PALATE: Intense peat smoke mellows to smouldering peat embers infused with green pear and nectarine notes. Nutty oak and vanilla pods combine with a touch of white pepper and a twist of lime to give a crisp, smoky finish.

To make Benriach Quarter Cask, Benriach spirit is first matured in bourbon barrels then undergoes a second maturation in bespoke quarter casks. These smaller casks allow more interaction between wood and spirit, intensifying maturation for depth and richness of flavour, to create layers of glazed orchard fruit and rich vanilla, finishing with notes of ripe barley and oak spice. All in perfect balance.

Smoky whiskies are not traditionally associated with Speyside, but look back through its distilleries? archives and it?s clear that heavily peated single malts were the preferred palate of the region back in the 19th century. Both intensely smoked and exquisitely sweet, the special edition has been two-cask matured in both American virgin oak and bourbon barrels - wood types intentionally selected to amplify the toasted sweet notes in Benriach?s smoky spirit.

"Celebrating the time of year where peated spirit runs through Benriach stills, a tradition revived by the distillery over 50 years ago, Smoke Season is a small batch release which captures one of Benriach?s time-honoured production techniques. Both intensely smoked and exquisitely sweet, the special edition has been two-cask matured in both American virgin oak and bourbon barrels - wood types intentionally selected to amplify the toasted sweet notes in Benriach?s smoky spirit. With a new recipe finely tuned by Master Blender Dr. Rachel Barrie, this expression is the most intensely smoked whisky to be released by the distillery."

Filled into a single ex Bourbon Hogshead barrel and left to mature for 24 years, Benrinnes always does well with a few decades under its belt. A bit like Mortlach, it's another distillery known for its weighty distillate and 'fat', 'meaty' mouthfeel.

This version distilled on 15 August 1997 was first matured in a second-fill bourbon cask until December 2020, before being finished for one month in an Oloroso sherry cask. Its incredibly well-balanced and extremely serene palette of flavours and aromas wavers charismatically between a surprisingly youthful malty and herbaceous freshness and wonderfully mature notes of fruit and honey.

long, serene. At the start of the finish, fresh fruits (pear, white peach) pair perfectly with tertiary (moss, chestnut) and heady (iris, lily) flavours. The very end of the finish reveals vanilla and praline. On the retro-nasal olfaction, malted barley returns to centre-stage, while lime blossom honey, citrus fruit zest (mandarin) and roasted notes (coffee) gradually gain the upper hand

Independently bottled by Douglas Laing This one was aged in a refill hogshead for 12 years, from July 2007 to February 2020, and then bottled up for the Provenance range. Just 371 bottles were produced.

Nose: Opens with chrisp green apple, sweet Speyside barley, new leather and freshly cut wood. 

Palate: Lashings of syrup, full-bodied with gingerbread and more of the toasted barley.

Finish: Citrus sweet, with orange, thick Madagascar Bourbon vanilla and toasted biscuits (CSL).

Benromach Cara Gold Malt is a limited release made using a combination of Cara Gold malted barley and our standard lightly peated malt. Matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, it offers perfumed and tropical fruit notes, leading to pepper and toasted malt with a hint of butterscotch, and a vibrant, sweet smoke finish.

FIRST FILL BOURBON AND SHERRY CASKS

Only ever matured in the highest quality oak casks, this fifteen year old single malt whisky gives cracked pepper, charred oak, apples, dark chocolate and forest fruits with rich sherry notes and a touch of smoke.

AROMA
Aromas of sweet toffee leading to notes of cracked black pepper and peat smoke. Rich forest fruits develop with dark chocolate and dried banana.

PALATE
Creamy and sweet with ripe apples and an undertone of charred oak. Dark chocolate develops and leads to toasted malt and orange peel with a subtle hint of smoke.

FINISH
Medium creamy finish with soft smoke and dried fruit.

A sumptuous peaty number from Benromach owned by the independent bottlers Gordon & MacPhail. This is very bourbon forward with aromas of apricot custard pastries and tobacco smoke leading to billowing peat smoke and toasted coconuts on the palate that has a finish that is long, spicy and fruity.

A limited edition bottling from Benromach, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the distillery's reopening in 1998. This whisky was distilled in the first year after Benromach reopened, and has been matured in first-fill oak casks before being bottled at cask strength (56.2%).

First, lift your glass to the light and appreciate the beautiful deep amber hue created by lingering for many years in first fill oak casks as the whisky grew and matured in character. Take a short inhalation, appreciating the wonderful aromas without water. Enjoy the rich notes of fruit cake, mingling with sweet demerara sugar and vanilla. Underlying hints of zingy citrus and dark chocolate develop with a touch of warm spice.
