Reid+Reid - Reid + Reid Reverend Dawson’s Gin is named after one of New Zealand’s leading prohibitionist who also happens to be the great, great grandfather of Stewart and Chris Reid.
Reverend John Dawson was the Gerneral Secretary of the N.Z. Alliance from 1909 - 1925. During this period Dawson became widely known because of his assiduous parliamentary lobbying and campaigning in favour of total prohibition.
This gin is distilled using the ‘one shot’ method to produce a classic dry gin focusing on juniper and citrus flavours.
Tasting Notes: Piney juniper with zesty citrus characters. Fresh and bright on the palate with a textural and aromatic finish.
The Reid brothers have backgrounds in engineering and winemaking, both of which gave their curious minds something related to work with when they began distilling gin. Reid + Reid gin has all the usual botanicals, coriander, juniper, lemons and more, but it is the addition of distinctly New Zealand botanicals that make it unique. The brothers like to think it's as much a celebration of great gin as a nod to New Zealand's fauna. In this case they've used manuka, kawakawa and horopito. It's a dry, refreshing gin, particularly suited to a long G & T, with plenty of ice and a twist of lemon.
Legal academic, property dealer and vigneron, Rene Rostaing crafts some of the finest Cote Roties on the market today. He has owned 2 hectares in the Côte Blonde and La Landone since the 1970s but fortune has blessed him through his inheritance of four hectares of superbly sited vineyards from his father in law Albert Dervieux and another 1.4 hectares of particularly old vines from his uncle Marius Gentaz. He now has 7.4 hectares which in Cote Rotie terms is a significant holding. Rostaing is firmly in the modernist camp of Cote Rôtie producers, destemming the majority of his fruit and being one of the first producers to ferment using vinomatics (horizontal automatic vinifiers). However he dislikes the overt taste of new oak and uses a maximum of 15% in the maturation process. All the wines are bottled unfiltered.
Ridge produced its first chardonnay in 1962 from fully mature vines planted in the late 1940s on the Monte Bello estate vineyard. Production never exceeded ten barrels, and Monte Bello Chardonnay was sold principally at the winery.
The grapes are whole cluster pressed, barrel fermented and aged on the lees for nine months and the wine is then aged in 80% air-dried American oak barrels and 20% French oak barrels. The French oak barrels are 15% new, 20% one year-old, 40% three years-old, and 25% five years-old.
The wine offers aromas of citrus, stone fruits, brioche and almonds leading to a palate showing light oak, tart apple, lemon blossom and long minerality.
A Rifter is much like that of a forager or a fossicker from the early gold mining era; they explored the rifts around the hills of Arrowtown, searching for that elusive nugget. At the end of a long day, a refreshing gin was always welcomed.
Rifters is a small batch boutique gin. Handcrafted in New Zealand using flavourful botanicals and pure New Zealand artesian water. Made to be enjoyed in good company.
Rifters bottle represents those used by the foragers and fossickers of the Arrowtown founders. The search for it took them to the Arrowtown Museum. It was there that they discovered a number of original Dutch gin bottles that had been unearthed in the town?s surrounding hills. Those bottles had been left behind by gold miners over one hundred and fifty years ago. Rifters bottle is a representation of that Arrowtown history, coloured to match the schist in the mountains that surround them in Central Otago.
Rifters was started by a couple of kiwi builders who are pretty fond of gin. One day in the workshop, they decided they might have a nudge at creating their own. A couple of years later and a whole lot of trial, they figured things out.
Tasting Notes: An enhanced dry gin full of botanical flavour, pure, clean and balanced. Citrus forward, with a fresh dry finish.
A botanical gin, small batch distilled. Infused with Elderberries & Mint Tips, along with locally foraged Wild Thyme, Manuka and Douglas Fir.
Experience the delight of these Central Otago flavours.
San Francisco World Spirits Competition: Gold Medal 2021
Rittenhouse Bottled in Bond Rye Whisky is not only an excellent spirit, but also remarkable value. Named "North American Whiskey of the Year" at the 2006 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, it was awarded a double gold medal by all judges in a blind tasting and then beat every other gold medal winner. The nose is rich, sweet, and reminiscent of bourbon with notes of toffee, milk chocolate, tangerine, and baking spices. Surprisingly smooth for a 100 proof whiskey, the palate is buttery and round with flavours of caramel, brown sugar, and spicy grain. source: drinkupny.com
The Three Bearies lived in a log cabin in the woods. One day, when a young lass named Goldilocks swung by for a visit, she had an opportunity to sample the tasty beverage they had created. Upon sampling the succulent libation she was moved to exclaim, in a rather excited voice, ?why, it?s not too sharp, yet not too subtle?in fact, it?s just right!?.
Blending the vibrant flavours of raspberries, boysenberries and blackcurrants with a delicious apple base, the brew upon which our analogy is based is made from the finest ingredients, using the most natural process imaginable.
Full-bodied yet delicate and refined, the rich interplay between the berries produces a lively aroma and a big ?jammy? taste making it the ideal companion for long walks through the woods, or virtually any other outing or occasion you can think of!
