This unpeated limited edition natural cask strength Caol Ila has been aged in ex-bourbon American Oak barrels that give it a rounded, mature character.
As clean and fresh as the pale sky that follows clearing rain, its intense flavours dance boldly across the tongue like flecks of foam over the wind-lashed waves.
Just 52 tonnes of precious Islay barley were malted to produce this single farm Octomore 09.3 edition. Raised in Irene?s Field on Octomore Farm in 2011, this uber-provenance single malt was later distilled and filled into 134 casks. Predominantly second-fill, the gentler influence of the wood allows more of the locally grown barley flavours to cut through the legendary peat smoke.
Scarabus means ?rocky place? in Old Norse, named after a mystical area of Islay.
This bottling is a higher-strength edition of Hunter Laing's Scarabus single malt, which is an Islay single malt from an undisclosed distillery. To make it, casks are specially selected to be bottled at the bumped-up strength. While the standard expression is bottled at 46% ABV, this one weighs in at a burly 57% ABV, which has helped to bolster the robust, smoky notes at its core.
An entirely bourbon-matured bottle of Arran single malt! After its distillation on the eponymous island, Barrel Reserve is matured exclusively in first-fill bourbon barrels, bottled at 43% ABV and presented in this rather handsome glass vessel (otherwise known as a bottle).
Nose: Fresh grass sweetness, lemon tart, biscuity malt and tart apple skin.
Palate: Malty, with Curiously Cinnamon cereal, vanilla fudge and green apple alongside a faint sea breeze.
Finish: Vanilla oak and lots of aromatic spice, with salted caramel and a handful of orchard fruit.
Produced at the oldest distillery on the Isle of Skye, Talisker Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been made by the sea since 1830.
In fact, few single malts tell the story of their origin better. Its smell and taste instantly connect the drinker with the rugged coastal environment. Every sip is a taste of the Isle of Skye itself – a powerhouse; challenging but adored, once discovered rarely left. Like a warm welcome from a wild sea. The intense character of Talisker comes from fresh water drawn directly from underground springs next to the distillery, two very distinctive wash stills and wooden worm tub condensers which, along with its unusual ABV of 45.8%, help set Talisker apart from other malts. Talisker Storm offers the drinker Talisker’s full maritime majesty, all unfettered elemental power and confidence.
Rich and full bodied whisky, matured in port barrels, which adds great complexity and flavours of crème caramel and berry fruits with hints of raspberry jam, damsons, peppermint and barley.
Palate: Creamy palate with notes of ginger, black pepper, berry fruits and cocoa.
Finish: Warming with notes of pastries, gingernuts, redcurrant jelly and spice.
