How many Blueberries you ask?!
More than enough to make Violette Beauregarde blush in their presence. But this illustration is post recovery.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and today Violette is very fond of these local blues from Hauiti Berries. Blended with Tongan vanilla, this dry-Berliner Weisse-Philly Sour hopes to bring out an inner child so that we all receive golden tickets!
Here at Sunshine Brewery we’ve reached an incredible milestone – 3000 brews!!!! To celebrate we’ve brewed a giant, hoppy beverage perfect to share with your mates and cleverly called it “Brew 3000”.
The 3 made us immediately think triple, so we brewed a Westie-styled IIIPA. A simple and clean malt bill provides the backdrop to showcase a trio of American hops, Mosaic Cryo, Amarillo and Idaho 7. A big beer for a big occasion. Enjoy cold, enjoy fresh, enjoy responsibly.

It’s that time of the year when we drop the husks, hops and hoses and slap on the SPFs, singlets and sunnies. We are spoilt here in Gisborne with so many local growers allowing us to crank out all these new editions of sours. This time our friends at Freemaker Farms invited us to ravage their cherry orchard so our team went out and picked a heap of cherries for our newest concoction. Added during fermentation to our usual wheat and oat heavy grist, this tart little pleasure is easy drinking on the sunny East Coast day.

We’re as cold as ice, and willing to sacrifice… Well… This time we are axing the sugar and body by using rice in the grain bill and letting enzymes finish off the rest of residual sugar. Another Sunshine spinoff, Cold IPA x Brut IPA. Another way to allow the hops shine and take the lead in another modern IPA. Sultana, Sorachi Ace, and Nelson Sauvin hops have been used to add upfront herbaceous, grassy, citrus notes which will leap of this refreshingly dry, crisp IPA. 6.5% ABV |
Cyclone Gabrielle destroyed the homes and livelihoods of many farmers in the Tairawhiti Region. We've brewed this beer to help them out - Share it with a mate and help the farmers. Thanks to our sponsors Gladfield Malt, NZ Hops, Label & Litho, Property Brokers and Lallemand, 100% of all sales proceeds will go directly to the Gisborne Tairawhiti Farming Recovery Fund, which helps fund the immediate cost of repairing the destruction.
Cyclone Gabri-Ale is a full, rich Red IPA with big malt and caramel notes from 6 different grains and layered with pine, red berries, tropical and stone fruits from the lashings of Necteron, Waimea and Superdelic hops. Beautiful balance of malts, hops, and bitterness, just what you need in your Red IPA.
Chickity Czech Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself… Bring out your inner Bohemian with our newest lager @Sunshine brewed for Lager than Life @The Hudson. Brewed with tradition in mind German Pilsner malts, single noble hop Czech Saaz and yeast, conditioned for 35 days, this beer is round yet refreshing, hoppy, yet balanced. Na zdravi.

How better to celebrate 33 years of brewing Gisborne Gold than to create a new beer in honour of the classic! And of course, our Yank brewer said “Super-size it.” Double Gold is a strong lager, also known as Maibock or Helles Bock. More strength than a traditional German lager but not as dark as a bock. A touch of honey and spice balance the toast and bready characters of malt to provide a more in-depth lager experience, perfect springtime drop. Here’s to another 33 years, PROST! 6.6% ABV |
A hybrid-style brew some also call Mountain IPA. This natural pale ale blends the unfiltered look with tropical fruits and a touch of bitterness. This session beer shows a touch of pine, with candied orange and burnt orange pith. Whatever it’s called, you can enjoy a few guilt free with the lower ABV.

The latest addition to our Eclipse Series. As we look forward to the autumnal and winter months, we always have some darker seasonals on the horizon. With our love of wheat beers and their drinkability a Dunkel was always on the horizon. Classic esters and phenolics of banana and clove add to hints of toffee, chocolate and spice. Heavy carbonation plays a large role in this style and how effortless it is to have another. Prost!
ABV: 5.5%
We love sour beers, and with sunny drinking weather on the way we figured we’d take a crack at an Imperial this time around. The idea coming from a beloved English pudding – Eton Mess. We have thrown in every berry we could get our hands on and topped it all off with lashings of vanilla and milk sugar. Our new favourite dessert.

It’s farmhouse season for all of us at Sunshine Brewery again! We’ve produced another French ale with the help of our local fig growers, Rose Cottage. Half the figs were thrown in fresh at the whirlpool, whilst the other half were used to make a Belgian candi syrup. This malty beverage has layers of farm fresh strawberries, toffee, burnt sugar, and fig jam. This beer can be enjoyed fresh or laid down for a bit of cellaring, enjoyed best around a warming fire.

Full Barrel Ale was brewed as a collaboration with Pōkeno Whisky. This higher-octane 7% Scottish Export Ale was aged in ex-Pōkeno barrels for 7 months and rested in stainless for another 3. The barrels were sent back to Pōkeno to have one of their whisky’s aged and impart the flavours of the beer. The beer shows aromatics of cinnamon, brown sugar and Boerenjongens(Dutch brandied raisins) mix with the esters of whisky. Whilst the flavours of vanilla, caramel and butterscotch enjoy a soft warming heat on the palate. Drink this beer now, cellar for a special occasion, or maybe enjoy as a boiler maker with the co-lab whisky.
