Commercial description.
Our brewmaster, Jef Versele, crafted this exclusive Gulden Draak Brewmasters Edition as a tribute to his grandfather Jozef Van Steenberge and the 230th birthday of the brewery. His inspiration came from his numerous trips to the United States and his deepest respect for the craft beer culture. This exclusive Gulden Draak combines the technology and the craftsmanship of the traditional brewing process. By letting the beer mature on whiskey barrels it gives it a distinctive and gentle finish that you have never tasted before.
THE VAN STEENBERGE BREWERY
The Van Steenberge brewery stands for independence, progress and growth. It emphasises the traditional art of brewing adapted to the current technological developments and guarantees a reliable quality and service. Respect for our employees and care for the environment are central to our policy.
The Gulden Draak Imperial Stout is a dark brown to black-colored beer and is the heaviest beer in the Gulden Draak range with its 12? alcohol percentage volume. The typical roasted taste is obtained by adding roasted, caramelized malt that is used exclusively for this. It is a very well-balanced heavy beer.
The aftertaste is rich and powerful. When tasting this specialty beer you discover aromas of banana and chocolate. The secondary fermentation works beautifully and will perfectly balance the higher alcohols.
Color: dark, black
Alcohol volume: 12% - 25 ? Plato
Aroma: banana, chocolate
Taste: coffee, slightly roasted malt flavor
Finish: Bittersweet
For the creation of the Gulden Draak Smoked, we go back to the ancient tradition of malt drying: smoking malt. This resulted in a smoked touch of the malt which you afterwards also could find in the beer. This typical smoky taste was lost over the years because the malt drying techniques were made considerably more efficient.
