Chosen from casks that were laid down in 2012, this brand new 'Cuvee' expression sees GlenAllachie's whisky given a secondary maturation in hand-chosen French and Italian wine casks. The distillery's spirit, with heather honeyed tones is joined by pastel fruits and red berries, hints of ginger and caramel biscuits. A burst of orchard fruit and citrus can be found, with plum syrup and more berries in the finish.
Casg Annamh means 'rare cask' in Gaelic. This expression is significantly influenced by the finest quality, hand-selected Oloroso Sherry casks. The liquid is matured in three types of casks; European oak Sherry casks and two different types of American oak casks resulting in a rich and intense whisky.
Commercial description...
"Every batch we create of our 10-year-old Cask Strength represents the direction in which we are taking The GlenAllachie" - Master Distiller, Billy Walker.
Demonstrating the impact of exceptional cask management, the tenth edition of our highly-sought after release embodies this philosophy and stands proudly alongside its award-winning predeccesors.
Each striving to better the last, Batch 10 is a true illustration of the artistry and expertise that creates every drop of our liquid gold. To deliver our classically Sherried profile, Billy hand-selected Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso casks to be married with spirit maturing in red wine barriques and medium toast/medium char American virgin oak barrels. The result is a well-balanced, yet complex malt with distinctive notes of dark fruits and layers of warming sweet spice.
Presented in its purest form at natural cask strength of 58.6%, without added colouring or chill-filtration.
Tasting notes
Colour
Intensely rich Mahogany.
Nose
Waves of honeycomb, orange zest and treacle, with fig syrup, mocha and poached orchard fruits, followed by cinnamon and butterscotch.
Palate
Lashings of cocoa, heather honey and baking spices, followed by dried red berries and Black Forest g?teau, with maraschino cherries and anise on the finish.
Creag Dhu is a new whisky created by Chris Molyneaux in partnership with an undisclosed Speyside distillery, chosen and selected exclusively from European oak ex-sherry casks that are a minimum of 8 years old. This is a smooth, rich and spicy whisky with notes of date and walnut cake, spicy caramel and Oloroso sherry. A malty, toffee apple tone joins a satisfying touch of smoke in the finish, this is all-new release from this brand.
Family-run indie bottler Blackadder has played a significant role in championing cask-strength single malts to whisky lovers since 1995. This mature release from Tamdhu highlights the very best from the distillery. In the glass you'll find notes of marasca cherry, orange zest, honey-nut bar and baking spices.
A new addition to the 'Discovery' range from Gordon & MacPhail, this expression comes entirely from American oak casks from the GlenAllachie distillery in Speyside, Scotland. This wood profile is typified by creamy custard, fruity notes of apple and banana, and a flavour of blossom honey. A great example of this traditional style, and a distillery that is very rarely seen independently bottled like this.
TASTING NOTES
Perfumed green apples with dried banana and lime zest. Soft milk chocolate gives way to salted almonds and vanilla pod. Smooth and creamy custard combines with lemon posset and malted biscuit. Blossom honey undertones develop alongside subtle white pepper. Medium-bodied with spice.
Set apart by its rich intensity, this 15 Year Old marries two very different single malts in one outstanding dram. After spending its whole life in American oak, one of these whiskies embodied Glen Moray's classic style. The other, aged entirely in oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, in Spain, resounded with rich spice. Calling on our long tradition of marrying casks, we brought their contrasting styles together, to craft intensely complex layers.
With tastes of dried fruits, dark chocolate and spice, amplified by age, this Scotch whisky is a perfect treat for single malt lovers eager to discover more.
