This Chateaunuef du Pape is the red equivalent of a big plush velvet pillow and this one cruises in at a very attractive price, relatively speaking that is.
It comes from Gerard and Marie-Claude Bonnet’s estate, founded in 1976, and now home to 27 hectares of grapes as well as the family home in a 16th century chapel.
The style of Chateauneuf can vary dramatically, due to the high number of possibilities when it comes to blending any of the permitted grapes, 13 in total; Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Clairette, Vaccarèse, Bourboulenc, Roussanne, Counoise, Muscardin, Picpoul, Picardan and Terret Noir.
This wine is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and the late ripening Mourvedre, which brings a mocha, chocolatey deliciousness to the full bodied, complex, earthy style of this outstanding Southern Rhone red.
It’s a stunning wine and offers super drinking now and even better in a wine cellar, no matter how modest your collection is. It’s wines like this one that make collecting such a rewarding investment.
Made from the Albana di Romagna grape. This is an extended skin-contact orange wine, aged in Georgian amphora for up to 120 days, lending tannin grip and intense aromatics. The nose opens with orange zest and yellow stone fruit, enhanced by baking spice aromas. On the palate the wine has a generous acidity with apricot, ginger and honey notes. Flinty minerality adds balance and depth. An excellent orange wine.
We think Don't Tell Gary represents everything good about Shiraz and with an appealingly quirky edge thanks to being made from grapes grown in the Grampian Mountains in Victoria rather than the better known Barossa Valley. Don't Tell Gary was first made in 2014, winemaker Jo Nash discovered an exceptional parcel of Shiraz from the Grampians which she gently crushed, then tucked away in some ridiculously expensive French oak barrels to age for 12 months. The wine speaks for itself – minimal intervention, purity of fruit and a long refreshing finish. Great drinking now at an incredibly accessible price.
HORAL’s Oude Geuze Mega Blend, a brew released every odd numbered year as part of Toer de Geuze, held in Belgium’s lambic country, is now available from Belgium in a Box. Oude Geuze Mega Blend 2019 is a cooperative effort between most of the lambic producers who participated in the 2019 Toer de Geuze, an open house which was held at most of Belgium’s lambic makers on May 4-5, 2019. It is a blend of lambics from eight producers: Brouwerij Boon, De Oude Geuzestekerij De Cam, Hanssens Artisanal, Brouwerij Lindemans, Brouwerij Oud Beersel, Gueuzerie Tilquin, Brouwerij Timmermans, and Brouwerij De Troch.
32,100 bottles were filled of this 2019 vintage, about twice as many as were for the first release in 2009. This is due to the popularity, drinkability, and aging potential of this biennial beer. Brouwerij Boon in Lembeek handled the blending, aging, and bottling of this lambic, which is a unique blend every release. I have tasted every vintage of this Oude Geuze, namely, the 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019. I feel the 2019 has very good prospects for long-term aging, as has been the case with previous vintages.

Showcasing Glen Garioch's deliciously different house style following its reawakening in 1997, this is the Third Chapter in a four-part story revealing the spirit's character at 17 years old - rich and honey-smooth with a citrus sweetness.
The 17 Year Old Highlander was matured in a combo of sherry and bourbon casks and shows off some deep chocolate and citrus notes that combine nicely with the distillery's spicy, waxy style.
This gorgeous ruby red malt has been bottled at 48% matured for over nine years in American Oak Barrels. It was then re-racked into Ruby Port Wood Pipes. The secondary maturation develops the flavour, depth and complexity and adds a vibrant, rich colour. Regular monitoring ensures we achieve the perfect balance between port and malt whilst preserving the whisky characteristics.
From Batch 2 of the GlenAllachie Wood Finish Range.
If you want to experience a pure expression of Cabernet Franc, you can't get much better than this full bodied red wine made from a two hectare vineyard planted between 1955 and 1957 on silt and sandy soils over limestone and farmed organically. All grapes in this wine are hand harvested, 100% de-stemmed and fermented with indigenous yeast then the wine was aged for six months in tank. The result is a pure, fruit forward expression of one of the world's greatest and most under appreciated red grapes. Try it.
One of our favourite roses from the south of France and don't just take our word for it - this wine has been ranked one of the world's top 100 best value wines under $20 by the famous North American magazine, Wine Spectator.
One sip will show you why; it's dry, it's fresh, it's flavoursome without relying on sweetness for character. Great value and drinking well, we think. Try it and taste for yourself.

Winemaker?s comments - Dense, deep red colour. The nose is concentrated yet fragrant with dark fruit aromas, complex, focused and very expressive. On the palate again concentration without being heavy. An elegant Pinot Noir with beautiful transparency, excellent structure and tension and very fine tannin support in the finish, reflecting one of our most exciting vintages since 2010.
Food match - Beautiful with venison, wild game, beef, lamb, vegetarian dishes, cheese and charcuterie, chocolate, raspberries and strawberries.
North Canterbury is home to an almost embarrassingly long list of great wines, which benefit from the region's microclimate provided by the shelter of the Teviotdale Hills, which protect vines from strong winds and help to create a microclimate. Hot days and cool nights give grapes a long ripening season with balance to make wines such as this lively, zingy Pinot Gris from Mount Beautiful.
